FASD-Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder

at FAS world Canada
in memory of
Abel Dorris (1968-91)
whose story was
told in the book,
The Broken Cord by
his father Michael Dorris.

The FASD Program offers the following services to communities in the Peace
River and Grande Prairie areas:


1. Diagnostic Services (children and adults)
2. Supports for caregivers of children either having or suspected of having FASD
3. Supports for adults either having or suspected of having FASD (Grande Prairie area only)
4. Mentorship using the P-CAP model for women of child-bearing years, women who are pregnant , and women up to six months pregnancy who use substances
5. Resource Library
6. Referrals
7. Education

INDEPENDENT LIVING SERVICES (ILS)

Provides Training and support to adults with a developmental disability to:
- Live in the community of their choice.
- Achieve or maintain an optimal quality of life.
- Promote independence through skill development.
- Find and maintain employment or volunteer placement.
- Develop community and personal safety awareness.

Eligibility Criteria:
- Over 18 years of age.
- Resident of the Northwest Region.
- Own consent and/or guardian consent.
- Financial resources to support self.
- Behavior that is not dangerous to self or others.
- Basic self-care and home management skills.

RESIDENTIAL SERVICES

Assists individuals requiring 24-hour direct support to live in the community and become more independent in:
- Personal care and self help skills.
- Personal health/safety.
- Community/recreational activities.
- Finding and maintaining volunteer placements.
- Self-advocacy

Individual Program Plans are developed with the individuals/guardians to direct support services to meet their specific needs and goals.

FAMILY SUPPORT

Provides support and assistance to families who have children with disabilities.

Family Support may assist the family to recruit, train and maintain therapy and respite aides hired through CFSA funding.

Eligibility Criteria:
- Birth to 18 years of age.
- Resident of Region 8 Northwest Alberta CFSA.

SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT PROGRAMS

Promote the value of employing people with employment barriers through maximizing each individual's employability in the workplace.

Provide assistance in establishing strong community connections with local labor markets, organizations and community members.

Individual Program Plans are designed to be flexible based on each individual and their current level of skills.

BRAIN INJURY

Coordinates services for people with acquired brain injury and their families, and looks for partnerships within the community that will promote and build community capacity.
